Mission, Vision and Values

Our partners believe that working people are the heartbeat of every strong community — and that they deserve more than empty promises of a better tomorrow. Alabama’s working people are good neighbors. The big manufacturing companies should be good neighbors, too. Workers deserve good jobs, safe workplaces, and vibrant neighborhoods where families and communities are flourishing today.

Good Neighbors Alabama adopted the following mission statement in April 2025:

Good Neighbors Alabama is dedicated to advancing the rights, dignity, and power of all workers. We bring together labor unions, advocacy groups, and community organizations to fight for clean air and water, racial justice, fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize without fear of retaliation. Through collective action, policy advocacy, and grassroots organizing, we strive to build an economy where every worker, regardless of industry or background, has a voice in shaping their future. Together, we are committed to environmental, racial and economic justice, workplace democracy, and the belief that strong worker protections create stronger communities.

Our long-term vision is simple: we see an Alabama where prosperity is shared, opportunity is real, and every person — regardless of history or ZIP code — is empowered to shape the trajectory of our collective future.

To achieve this, good neighbors organize, advocate for, and mobilize real people in the places long neglected by the big companies. Along the way, we ensure that public money creates good jobs for working people, strengthens local communities, and delivers lasting benefits to those who truly make America work.

For Southern workers especially, solidarity has always been more than a slogan — it is a way of life for the people who choose it. As neighbors we can set a new standard for what is possible when working people, businesses, and communities unite with fairness and accountability in the places where we put our bodies on the line for someone else’s bottom line. Our work is not finished until Alabama is a place where all our neighbors are free to flourish and benefit from the investments made in our backyards.

About Good Neighbors

About Good Neighbors Alabama

Good Neighbors Alabama brings together workers’ unions, advocacy groups and community organizations who want more accountability for the big manufacturing companies in our state. Too often, the big companies aren’t acting as good neighbors – even after they receive millions of dollars in public money. Good Neighbors Alabama is bringing the big companies to the table to find solutions, seek partnership, and build power for our neighbors.

Setting the Standard for a Stronger Future

Good neighbors know that when working people and companies come together to invest in good jobs, safe workplaces, and thriving communities, everyone benefits. This includes forward-thinking manufacturing companies who are demonstrating that being a good neighbor can lead to vital and lasting partnerships that strengthen everyone.
